Challenge |
Connect all
Alliance Grain locations for data communication
and shared access. Because of the
geographic distance between these locations, a
wireless solution was the most feasible route to
take. The solution needed to be cost
effective and easy to manage or diagnose, since
several of the Alliance Grain locations are
slightly distant from the MCSOT offices.

Project Details |
With seven locations, Alliance Grain is one of the
larger grain elevator corporations in the
Central Illinois region. Since each remote
location is in charge of grain purchases for the
day, Alliance Grain was using standard phone
line accounts to connect to the Citrix server.
Because of these different phone lines, service
was slow and each separate phone connection
became costly.
Seeking a better way to consolidate their
connection and reduce monthly costs, Alliance
Grain decided to contract MCS Office
Technologies to design a solution that would
increase their effective throughput to the
company Citrix server. Using an entry
point at the Gibson City location for Internet
service and firewall hardware, MCS Office
Technologies used 5.8 Ghz Cisco wireless radio
transmitters with YDI RORs to create an
efficient wireless bridge. The
transmitters and housing assembly were placed at
the proper height on each location's grain bins
or elevators
Joe Thompson, Chief Financial Officer for
Alliance Grain, notes that reliability and
cost-effectiveness are two of the most important
benefits to this wireless solution.
Servicing separate phone lines for each location
became a hassle when it was necessary to deal
with the separate phone companies
"We were looking at different high-speed
Internet services that were available in the
area, but reliability and the unavailability of
an ISP at our Cullom location were large
concerns. MCS is much easier to deal with
than the separate phone companies and we are
achieving higher reliability and much, much
faster service. We are extremely pleased
with this new setup."
